SINGAPORE - The newest station on the North-South line, the Marina South Pier MRT Station, will start operations on Sunday, November 23.

The station will serve the Marina South area, including passengers travelling through the Marina South Pier and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Saturday, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said that the station will soon be accompanied by more facilities.

"Come 2021, the vicinity around Marina South Pier Station will be complemented by three stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line: Gardens by the Bay, Marina South and an interchange station at Marina Bay."

Mr Lui also said that the construction works on Downtown Lines 2 and 3 are progressing well and tenders for the remaining stretches of the Thomson-East Coast Line are expected to be called in 2015.

The expansion of the rail network aims to put eight in 10 households within a 10-minute walk to a station, said Mr Lui.
