Malaysian buses stage "strike" at Johor Checkpoint, says report

SINGAPORE - Malaysian buses carrying factory workers and students into Singapore have reportedly staged what appears to be a strike at the Malaysian Checkpoint at Johor Bahru.

Channel News Asia said it got calls regarding the incident early on Friday morning.

Witnesses reported that many Malaysian registered buses were refusing to continue their journey into Singapore at Woodlands. The "strike" by the bus drivers caused heavy traffic congestion at the Checkpoint.

An increase of more than 500 per cent in toll charges at the Johor Bahru Customs came into effect on Aug 1, effecting both Johor-bound and Singapore-bound vehicles.
