Contracts worth nearly $1.15 billion have been awarded for the upcoming Thomson and Eastern Region Lines.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a $159 million contract to GE to provide the signalling system and platform screen doors for both lines, which will run as one line from Woodlands in the north to the east.

Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited won a $124 million contract to provide the communications systems for both lines. This includes various sub-systems such as the video surveillance, public address and travel information systems.

The LTA has also awarded civil contracts to build Mt Pleasant, Stevens and Maxwell stations on the Thomson Line, which will be ready in phases from 2019 to 2021.

A joint venture by RSEA Engineering Corporation, Eng Lee Engineering and Wai Fong Construction will build Mt Pleasant station and its tunnels for $207 million. This station will serve as the fifth Civil Defence shelter along the Thomson Line, together with Woodlands, Lentor, Mayflower and Sin Ming stations.

Korean firm Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co will build Stevens station and its tunnels for about $441 million.

The LTA awarded a $222 million contract to construct Maxwell station to Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure, which is currently working on the construction of the Downtown Line's Gali Batu Depot.

Construction for all three stations will commence in the second quarter of this year and be completed by 2021.

The LTA has yet to reveal the detailed alignment of the Eastern Region Line, which will join the Thomson Line at Gardens by the Bay station. It said more details will be announced when ready.
