SINGAPORE - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a strongly worded statement on Tuesday evening, calling the recent spate of train disruptions "unacceptable".

"Today's disruptions on the Circle and East-West Lines are the latest in a recent spate of incidents on the SMRT rail network. Commuters have been severely inconvenienced again," an LTA spokesman said.

"LTA has directed SMRT to investigate the various disruptions and give a full account of them. We are also conducting our independent investigations."

It added that it was working with the transport operator on "immediate remedial actions" to improve the current situation.

A review of SMRT's management of resources and processes for the rail system's maintenance will also be conducted.

Tuesday evening's rush-hour disruption on the East-West line is the second incident in a day and the fifth in nine days.
