Commuters living in the Punggol area will soon get a new bus service, while those living near Bukit Merah will have a bus service extended.

The feeder service 386, which will operate from next Sunday, will connect residents at Edgefield Plains to the Punggol MRT and bus interchange.

It will serve residents along Punggol Central, Edgefield Plains and three schools - Edgefield Primary, Punggol View Primary and Punggol Secondary.

Service 123M will be extended to travel between HarbourFront interchange and Tiong Bahru Road, as of Aug 24. It currently runs along Tiong Bahru Road, Lower Delta Road and Bukit Purmei Avenue.

More trips will be added and the service's operating hours will also be extended to include weekday off-peak periods and weekends, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SBS Transit in a joint statement yesterday.

Both services are part of the $1.1 billion Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), launched by the LTA to improve bus service frequency and introduce new services.

To date, more than 360 BSEP buses have been added. A total of 1,000 BSEP buses will be on the roads by 2017.
