SINGAPORE - A mother escaped a serious accident when huge heavy metal sheets from a trailer slid and crashed onto the path of her car on Tuesday afternoon.

A second's difference and the the metal sheets could have landed on the vehicle of recruiter Deng Ming Li, 31, who was on her way to fetch her three-year-old son from his pre-school.

Footage from the on-board camera in Madam Deng's silver Toyota Mark X shows the metal sheets sliding off the trailer and crashing just inches away from her windscreen as the magenta-coloured lorry was negotiating a turn.

The video posted on the Facebook page of The Real Singapore on Thursday night, had been shared more than 2,000 times by Friday morning.

Madam Deng said she suffered bruises and lower back pains from the accident which took place at about 5pm on Punggol Road. She is currently on medical leave.

Photographs obtained by The Straits Times showed damage to the front of the vehicle. The tyres had also been punctured by the metal sheets.

The mother of two said: "After the accident, the driver stopped and came down but did not apologise."

The driver, Mr Liu Shuo, who appeared to be in his 20s, is employed by Ag Teck Choon Logistics. Madam Deng said she and her husband are still negotiating with the trailer's insurance firm, EQ Insurance, to pay for repairs and loss of use of the car.

"Punggol is a new town, and there are many pre-schools and primary schools in the area," she said. "There should be greater awareness among construction firms to secure their dangerous construction material."
