Three out of five Certificate of Entitlement (COE) categories ended higher on Wednesday, despite the prospect of a bigger supply of certificates from next month.
Category A - for cars up to 1,600cc and 130bhp - finished at $77,400, down from the previous tender's $78,602 three weeks ago. Category B - for cars above 1,600cc or 130bhp - closed at $84,504, up from $82,900.
Open COE, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for bigger cars, also inched up from $84,001 to end at $84,100.
The premium for commercial vehicles fell from $53,891 to close at $49,503. Motorcycle COE rose from $4,289 to reach yet another record high of $4,489.
Motor traders were surprised by the generally bullish results, given that COE supply is set to expand from next month. But some said the three-week gap between this tender and the last one may have resulted in more orders being taken than in the usual two-week break.
