Cathay Pacific will move out of Terminal 1 into Changi Airport's new Terminal 4 when it opens in 2017.

The Hong Kong-based carrier said this will provide customers with better service, including a dedicated lounge for premium passengers.

The new facility, being built where the Budget Terminal was previously located, will offer a whole suite of do-it-yourself options including self check-in and aircraft boarding, said the airline and Changi Airport Group in a joint media release on Wednesday.

Mr Wilson Yam, Cathay Pacific's South-east Asia general manager said: "As a keen adopter of technology aimed at improving passenger experience, self check-in options have always been offered by Cathay Pacific at all our stations. Changi Airport is one of Cathay Pacific's largest bases outside Hong Kong so we are very excited at this opportunity to offer a transformational on-ground product for our valued passengers."

The airline flies nine times a day from Singapore to Hong Kong, including one service that goes via Bangkok.

When completed, T4 will be able to handle up to 16 million passengers a year.

The terminal will offer 21 aircraft stands - 17 for single-aisle planes and four for wide-body aircraft.

They will come with aerobridges to offer passengers greater convenience and accessibility, the airport said.

Travellers at T4 will be able to get to the other three main terminals to catch connecting flights, for example, by buses that will be provided.
