SINGAPORE - ComfortDelGro taxi drivers, all 37,000 of them, will get free admission to all ActiveSG gyms and swimming pools every Wednesday from February until the end of the year - in a bid to help them stay fit.
This collaboration between ActiveSG, a national sports movement, and transport operator ComfortDelGro, was launched on Saturday at the OCBC Square in front of Kallang Wave Mall.
Cabbies will also be encouraged to keep active, form sport interest groups among themselves and take part in the sports programmes. ActiveSG will also run bi-monthly workshops in small groups where cabbies can learn light exercises.
In a statement, chief executive officer for Comfort's taxi business, Mr Yang Ban Seng, said: "Given the sedentary nature of their job and the hours our drivers put on the roads, the welfare and health of our taxi drivers has always been one of our main concerns."
"This partnership complements our health checks and health coaching sessions that we conducted for our taxi drivers last year," he added.
ActiveSG chief, Mr Lai Chin Kwang, said: "This collaboration marks the start of an important journey - one that will help taxi drivers lead a more active lifestyle amid their erratic work schedules, and in turn become role models who can inspire their passengers and the larger community to stay active."
