SINGAPORE - Light sticks, button badges featuring artwork from the public, colourful visor hats, and an LED bracelet that blinks to the tempo of music - these are some items that one can look forward to in this year's National Day Parade (NDP) Funpack.

The pack and its items were designed by 15 students from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central's School of Design and Media, together with their lecturers and the NDP creative team.

Made from water-resistant polyester and able to carry more than 6 kg, the bag itself will come in six different vibrant colour combinations, including pink and yellow, red and blue, and green and orange. Inside are equally vibrant visor hats with a long tongue to provide shade from the sun, and button badges featuring winning designs from a contest that called for submissions from the public.

"The bold design of the Funpack and the engaging items are testament to our people's passion for Singapore. The end product is one that celebrates Singaporeans and our nation's vibrancy," said chairman of the NDP logistics and finance committee Tan Boon Hong.

Mr Mohamed Shaik Mohideen Samsudeen, 18, one of the ITE students in the Funpack design team, said he feels "very proud" to be able to contribute his skills to the parade. His team spent most of their December holidays working on the Funpack, going through about 100 sketches, and even sewing the prototypes of the bags themselves.

This year's pack will also include crowd favourite items such as the Singapore scarf, a clap banner and a discount booklet.
