Work platform distributor Galmon opens Singapore's first work-at-heights safety training centre

SINGAPORE - Home-grown distributor of mobile elevating work platforms Galmon officially opened Singapore's first training centre dedicated to work-at-height safety on Friday (May 22).

The Galmon Academy will offer managers and workers a range of courses accredited by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), such as a boom lift operator course.

Commending Galmon's industry-led efforts, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower and Education Hawazi Daipi said: "Employers and employees can and must do their part to bring about safer and healthier workplaces."

He also stressed that preventing workplace accidents and ill health is critical, pointing out that this year's National Workplace Safety and Health campaign message is "I can prevent all injuries and be healthy at work".

Falls from height are one of the top causes of workplace injuries every year.

In 2014, 17 per cent of workplace fatalities and 13 per cent of major workplace accidents in Singapore resulted from falls from height.

Since it was established in 2011, Galmon Academy has trained over 12,000 workers and managers in work-at-height safety.
