SINGAPORE - Eating out at hawker centres and coffeeshops is not as cheap as it used to be.

A survey of more than 500 hawkers stalls found that a plate of chicken rice or nasi briyani costs 10 to 20 per cent more compared to in 2012.

For example, a plate of chicken rice cost $2.50 in 2012 but is $3 today.

The Consumer Association of Singapore (Case), which commissioned the survey, said though that there are still affordable meals out there.

Where to dine cheap

Case highlighted five stalls with competitive prices for each dish, including fishball noodles and chicken rice. The prices do not include take-away charges, and Case says there may be other stalls that sell the dishes at competitive prices.
