Volunteers and corporate supporters honoured at biennial Safra awards

SINGAPORE - More than 100 volunteers and corporate partners were honoured for their contributions in building loyalty among national servicemen at the biennial Safra awards ceremony.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who is also the chairman of Safra's Board of Governors, said: "You give time and effort as you believe that our NSmen's contribution should be recognised. This is an important part of Total Defence."

Among the recipients at the ceremony, held at Mount Faber on Wednesday, was Mr Foo Tee Jun who has volunteered with the Safra Photographic Club since 1974. Other notable winners included Mr Zhao Dexin, 25, who helped to set up the Safra Entrepreneurs Club and Mr Don Goh, 36, who chaired the Safra Dragon Boat team which came third in Singapore's Dragonboat Festival 2014.

Safra has about 400 active volunteers who serve on committees within Safra, Safra Radio and the National Service Resort and Country Club.
