Visit by President of the National Assembly of Lao PDR: Further cooperation affirmed

SINGAPORE- The president of the National Assembly of Lao PDR, Madam Pany Yathotou, made an official visit to Singapore from Tuesday to Thursday.

Here at the invitation of Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, she was accompanied by a 12-member delegation comprising National Assembly Members and government officials.

Madam Pany called on Madam Halimah at the Parliament House.

Both of them reaffirmed the warm inter-parliamentary relations between Singapore and Lao PDR.

They agreed there was potential for greater cooperation in the area of human resource development between both legislatures and looked forward to further cooperation between the two countries.

Madam Halimah also hosted lunch for Madam Pany and her delegation.

In addition, Madam Pany called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana. Both Dr Tan and PM Lee affirmed the good bilateral ties between Singapore and Lao PDR which were maintained through high-level exchanges and technical cooperation.

Both also expressed Singapore's support for Lao PDR in its upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship next year.

While in Singapore, Madam Pany visited the Institute of Technical Education for a briefing on its programmes and a tour of the campus facilities. She also visited the Auditor-General's Office to learn more about its functions.
