SINGAPORE - Consumers who own electric bowls from the brands Nushi, T.M.D and T.A.C are advised to stop using them immediately if their appliances do not carry a safety mark, said Spring Singapore.

The firms behind these brands of bowls, which are similar to electric woks and used to fry, steam or stew food, have been fined and ordered to halt sales of their products. They were found to have sold bowls unregistered with Spring Singapore and without the safety mark.

Electric bowls are among 45 categories of electrical and gas products required to register with Spring Singapore, the regulatory body for consumer product safety and be issued with a safety mark before being sold in the market.

Those seeking redress may also contact the Consumers Association of Singapore for assistance.

Selling controlled goods without the safety mark is an offence. The maximum penalty for infringement is a $10,000 fine and/or two years imprisonment.
