SINGAPORE - A makeshift factory suspected to be illegally refilling LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) canisters was discovered in a forest clearing in Seletar West on Tuesday.

Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported on Wednesday that Madam Tan, 32, stumbled on a lorry carrying about 40 LPG canisters when she was looking for a fish farm in the area on Tuesday.

The customer service officer visited the site again on Tuesday evening and she found another lorry, also carrying LPG canisters.

According to Shin Min, the site was about the size of three basketball courts and the reporter found tools and work gloves on an oil-stained table at the site.

The lorries were not marked with any company registration information.

SCDF said it has conducted a fire safety enforcement check at the area on Tuesday (June 2), after receiving a public feedback. SCDF take action against those responsible.

Under the Fire Safety Act, it is an offence to store or decant petroleum and flammable materials at unlicensed premises.

The public can report fire hazards to the SCDF by calling 1800-280-0000 or by emailing: SCDF_Fire_Safety_Feedback@scdf.gov.sg
