At Home
HDB will study what digital infrastructure is needed to support an automated home. Trials commence in 2015.
The first "smart" housing project will be launched in Punggol next year, and will includes efficient measures like motion sensor lights in carparks.
Out and About
An update to the MyTransport app over the weekend now allows commuters to plan journeys and alerts commuters when they are nearing their destination bus stops.
Self-driving cars are undergoing tests at the Jurong Lake District, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University. By next year, they will also be tested on public roads at One-North in Buona Vista.
Daily Conveniences
A single payment instrument - no more multiple credit cards - is being looked into. A chip could turn a watch or even an identity card into the only payment device you need.
Personal Needs
HDB is testing out an elderly monitoring system, which places sensors around the home to watch for irregular patterns in behaviour, and send out an alert if so.
NUS is exploring a "tele-rehab" system with community hospitals, which allows patients to perform prescribed therapy exercises, while sensors attached to their limbs transmit data back to the hospitals. This can be reviewed offline, and make the most of the scarce pool of therapists here.
