SINGAPORE - Three more fields will soon be available to the public for outdoor sports and other recreational activities, as the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) opens the sites for community use before they are possibly redeveloped.
From Wednesday, the field within the former Manjusri Secondary at Sims Drive, measuring 9,084sqm, will be open for recreational use, said the SLA on Tuesday.
The fields within the former ITE campuses at Lempeng Drive in Clementi and Tampines Street 92, each measuring about 9,900sqm, will also be open to the public by the end of September 2014, once improvement works such as grass cutting and levelling of the fields are completed.
"As long as the field is not required for impending redevelopment, it will be opened 24 hours a day and available for use free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis," the SLA said, adding that no advance booking is required.
Its chief executive, Mr Vincent Hoong, said: "Opening up playfields within vacant state properties will give Singaporeans more options for sports and recreational activities. I hope that this will encourage more Singaporeans to lead healthy and active lifestyles."
To date, about 282 plots of vacant state land, including sites at Bukit Timah Railway Station and Tanjong Rhu Road, have been opened to the public free of charge, and with no booking required.
