SINGAPORE - Taipei is the Singaporean traveller's choice for their New Year break, according to a TripAdvisor survey released on Thursday.
A study into searches on the popular travel website for the New Year period of Dec 27, 2014 to Jan 4, 2015 found that the most popular destinations for Singaporean travellers to welcome the new year are Taipei and Hong Kong.
Fireworks at the Taipei 101 skyscraper, and a countdown concert at the Civic Plaza which features popular Taiwanese artistes, are a key draw for Singaporeans.
"The biggest firework show in Taipei will be at Taipei 101 where they will have the New Year Countdown Party. It is also near where the biggest public concert will be held," according to a comment on TripAdvisor's forums.
There will also be fireworks to ring in the new year in second-placed Hong Kong, at its famed Victoria Harbour.
But many still want spend the festive season at home, as Singapore came third in the ranking.
The other popular new year destinations on the list include Bangkok, Sydney, Seoul and Bali.
Global travellers are favouring the Lion City for a new year holiday too. Singapore was the 15th most popular destination for global travellers researching their new year break, TripAdvisor said.
For Singaporeans staying put, and tourists headed here, there will be no lack of parties to go to.
Revellers can choose to spend a tropical New Year at the Sentosa Siloso Beach Party, or a "snowy" one at The Rink at JCube, which is holding a foam party.
It is also the start of the nation's Golden Jubilee celebrations, with a special eight-minute fireworks display at the official countdown at Marina Bay.
