SINGAPORE - The island city-state once again emerged as the best place in the world to go for meetings, according to the Union of International Associations (UIA) 2013 Global Rankings

Singapore was named the Top International Meeting Country for the third year running, and Top International Meeting City for the seventh consecutive year, said the Singapore Tourism Board in a statement on Friday.

In 2013, 994 of the meetings hosted in Singapore met UIA's stipulated qualifying criteria as organised or sponsored by international organisations of "a significant international character". A key meeting held here last year, for example, is the Shangri-La Dialogue, organised by the international institute for strategic studies think tank.

That was a 4.4 per cent increase from the 952 in 2012, and also made up almost one tenth of UIA's database of meetings, comprising all such events held across 174 countries and 1,465 cities.
