Singapore mother of toddler thanks the two Indian nationals who saved her daughter's life

SINGAPORE- The mother of a two-year-old child - on Friday - thanked the two men who saved her daughter from falling from her second-floor flat a day earlier.

"I just want to thank them for saving my daughter's life," Madam Naureen Saniri, 27, told The Straits Times in a video interview as she teared.

Her daughter, whom she had left alone at the time, had climbed out and had her head stuck between the rails of an external clothes-drying rack outside the service yard.

Indian nationals Subramanian Shanmuganathan and Ponnan Muthukumar had been working on the roads near Block 371 Jurong East Street 32 on Thursday, when they saw the child hanging precariously.

Mr Shanmuganathan immediately climbed up a pipe to rescue her, and Mr Muthukumar followed suit to help him.

A video of the rescue went viral.

Madam Naureen explained that her daughter would usually be in school at the time it happened, but that she did not want to wake her up when she was asleep.

The housewife had left the house to pick another child up.

For their heroic acts, the two foreign workers received the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Public Spiritedness Awards on Friday.
