SINGAPORE - The Singapore and Brunei navies have wrapped up a week-long bilateral exercise which included manoeuvring, live firing and helicopter operations.

The exercise, titled "Pelican", took place off the waters of Brunei. The Republic of Singapore Navy deployed the RSS Intrepid, a stealth frigate and a naval helicopter, while the Royal Brunei Navy sent two patrol-vessels to participate.

Commanding officer of RSS Intrepid Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Beng said that the exercise has strengthened defence relations between the two navies and noted that its "complexity has grown over the years".

Exercise Pelican, which was established in 1979, underscores defence relations between the two countries and "enhances the professionalism and interoperability" between their navies, Singapore's defence ministry said in a statement.
