SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) is organising an art competition, in conjunction with a planned open house, to celebrate the nation's 50th birthday.

To mark the airline's achievements and transformation over the years, the theme of the contest is "Celebrating SG50 with SIA: Growing with the Nation".

Prizes will include air tickets on SIA, SilkAir, Scoot and Tigerair flights.

Secondary and tertiary students, up to the age of 30, who wish to take part in the competition can submit digital copies of their artwork, accompanied by a brief description of not more than 100 words, via www.SIAopenhouse.com.

The last day for submissions is June 30, SIA said on Wednesday.

Winners will be notified and invited to the prize presentation ceremony during the SIA Open House at SIA Training Centre on July 25.

More details of the open house will be released later.

Children aged between four and 12 can also participate in an on-the-spot drawing and colouring competition during the open house.

Parents can pre-register their children for the competition at $5 per participant via the SIA Open House website, which will be available from next month.

All proceeds from the registration of the art competition will be donated to Community Chest of Singapore.

SIA's senior vice-president (human resources) and chairman of the committee organising the open house and art competition, Christopher Cheng, said: "The close symmetry of SIA's history and growth with that of Singapore's provides numerous opportunities for artistic expression.....We are therefore very excited to reach out to Singapore's young artists on their interpretation of the journey which SIA has taken with that of our nation's, over the last 50 years."
