SG Enable unveils plans for integrated community space for the disabled

SINGAPORE - People with disabilities can look forward to an integrated community space in Redhill by the second half of 2015.

On Thursday, SG Enable, a government-established agency which provides services for the disabled, unveiled its plans for the hangout at a site at 141 Redhill Road. The space will include a centre which provides information services to the disabled, a career centre which offers job placement and job support services, and facilities for courses and on-the-job training. There will also be a "mentoring space", where the disabled with work experience can mentor disabled students, for instance.

Spanning about 30,000 sq m, the site could also have banks and supermarkets in future to make it convenient for the disabled to access their services.

The facility will have design features, such as lifts and more ramps. SG Enable will also look into improving accessibility for people coming from the nearby Redhill MRT station, such as having more sheltered walkways from the station.

Mr Phillip Tan, chairman of Community Chest, also announced that $2.5 million has been raised for the upgrading of the site. This amount will be matched dollar for dollar by the Government.

A naming contest for the community space was also launched on Thursday. More information can be found on SG Enable's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SGEnable.
