A section of Upper Changi Road East caved in this morning causing a tipper truck to collapse into the ground.

The driver of the truck who asked to be identified Mr Su said he was driving along Upper Changi Road East towards Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal at 830am when he suddenly felt the road giving way.

The truck, which was carrying soil collapsed into the road, then sunk into the ground.

"The truck could not move once it sank into the road. I quickly climbed out," Mr Su said in Mandarin. Mr Su, who was driving alone, was not hurt.

The accident happened about 50 metres away from a construction site for the upcoming Downtown Line 3.

Construction workers said tunnelling works had started near the accident site about three months ago.
