Search ongoing for Singaporean woman who went missing while on ferry from Malaysia

A Singaporean woman went missing on a ferry bound from Malaysia to Singapore on Saturday morning.

The Singapore-flagged ferry, "Sindo Empress" had departed from Tanjong Pengellih, a town at the southeastern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, at 7.30 am.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received a report that the female passenger was missing at 11 am, when the ferry arrived at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

Five vessels, three from the MPA and two from the Police Coast Guard, have been activated for search and rescue operations along the route taken by the ferry. They are joined by ships from the Malaysia Marine Enforcement Agency.

The incident is still under investigation. Next-of-kin of the missing passenger can call MPA at 63751699.
