SINGAPORE - Singapore's first Santa-themed run saw some 4,600 runners take to the Marina Bay area on Saturday evening, in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Maybank Santa Run for Wishes comprised a 2.2km family fun run and a 5km run, and culminated in a charity carnival with food and game stalls and rides. The proceeds from the carnival, which runs till 10pm, go to the foundation and will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the government as part of the Care and Share Movement.

Local personalities Andrea De Cruz and Alexander Duric were among the runners.

Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore chief executive Catherine Ho said in a statement: "The support of the public will give long-term support to our mission and allow us to bring the power of a wish to every child in Singapore who is facing life-threatening medical illnesses."

The foundation has granted about 1,000 wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions since 2003.
