Sabah quake: Tanjong Katong Primary pupil in 'critical but stable condition' returns to Singapore for treatment

SINGAPORE - An 11-year old pupil from Tanjong Katong Primary School has returned to Singapore for medical treatment.

The student, who was hospitalised in Kota Kinabalu, returned to Singapore on Monday (June 8), and was taken to a hospital here for further medical treatment, said the Ministry of Education. The ministry did not name the boy.

He has serious head, chest and muscle injuries, said Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Hospital where he was warded. The hospital has described his condition as critical but stable.

"Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Hospital, after discussing with Singapore KK Women's and Children's Hospital, have mutually agreed this morning that the time is right to send the patient to Singapore for continued care," said Mr Jean-Francois Naa, CEO of Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Hospital.

The hospital said its specialists have been discussing treatment options with his family, and they chose to continue treatment in Singapore. "Since the treatment is expected to take up to a few weeks, they have opted to continue the treatment in Singapore. This will make the care and support by the family much easier," said the CEO.

Of the 18 climbers admitted to the hospital, 17 had been discharged and returned home to Singapore, said the hospital.
