SINGAPORE - More than 3,600 people ran for a cause on Saturday morning, and raised $600,000 for a charity's programmes which benefit disadvantaged young people.

The Run for Life event at East Coast Park was organised by Life Community Services Society and Noel Gifts International. About $450,000 was raised at the first edition of the run last year.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Mr Seah Kian Peng, who are both MPs of Marine Parade GRC, attended the event.

Singapore's oldest marathoner, 83-year-old Chan Meng Hui, took part in the 10km run. There was also a 2.4km family fun run, and a 500m "kids dash" for children.
