SINGAPORE - The Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) Black Knights will perform a special flypast at this year's National Day Parade to honour the late founding prime minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen revealed this in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon.
He wrote: "The Black Knights will thunder over the Padang, lined up as 5 stars watching over this nation he founded; representing the ideals that Mr Lee spent his life pushing for - democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.
"It will be a fitting tribute to Mr Lee, for all of us to look up and beyond and remember his wish to keep Singapore going."
Dr Ng's post was followed by another by the RSAF announcing the tribute. Both posts showed a picture of five F-16Cs in a five-star formation surrounding the now iconic black-and-white ribbon of Mr Lee.
The Black Knights had previously attempted to perform a "Missing Man" formation during Mr Lee's funeral procession on March 29, but the aircraft ended up doing only an aerial flypast above cloud cover due to rainy weather and low visibility.
