SINGAPORE - Some 5,000 Ang Mo Kio and Sengkang residents took part in a mass walk at Ang Mo Kio on Sunday morning.

They were flagged off by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West and participants walked about 2 km to the ITE College Central at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 where the National Day Rally was held last Sunday.

The Ang Mo Kio walk is part of a nationwide community mass walk organised by the People's Association (PA). Called "Walk with a Heart", the national event comprises a series of short walks of 2 to 3 km held throughout Sunday and it is expected to draw 75,000 participants from all 87 constituencies in Singapore.

Apart from residents, 62 voluntary welfare organisations and schools are also talking part, up from 30 in the inaugural event last year. PA organised the mass walk to show that residents care for the less privileged.
