President Tony Tan attends dinner for alumni of Australian unis

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam attended a celebration on Tuesday evening for the alumni of Australian universities.

Some 500 people mingled at the barbecue dinner, held at the residence of Australian High Commissioner to Singapore Philip Green.

More than 100,000 Singaporeans have studied at Australian universities, including Dr Tan, who has a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Adelaide.

Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Senator Brett Mason, Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings Dr Lee Boon Yang and former National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan also attended the event.
