SINGAPORE - The late ventriloquist and entertainer Victor Khoo "will be missed by many Singaporeans", Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Mr Lee described Mr Khoo as "well-loved" and said he always enjoyed his shows. He recalled that Charlee, Mr Khoo's wooden puppet sidekick, was "cheeky but remarkably well informed".

Mr Khoo died on Friday morning at the age of 63 after succumbing to cancer.

Together with Charlee, he was a household name in Singapore throughout the 1970s and 80s, when the pair hosted the Saturday morning children's radio show Happy Talk.
