SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong paid tribute to the late Colonel (Retired) John Morrice, a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) pioneer who died last Thursday (Oct 23) of a heart attack.

He posted this message on his Facebook page on Monday night, along with a video.

Col Morrice joined the SAF in 1957 as a regular and retired 26 years later in 1983.

Apart from his command appointments, he was also on the front lines during Konfrontasi, conducting patrols during the troubled period from 1963 to 1966, when Indonesia opposed the newly formed Malaysia, which Singapore was then a part of.

After retirement, he worked for 14 years at Singapore Technologies.
