Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong explained the benefits of an upgrading programme to some 500 residents on Saturday night, and asked for their support for the works to go forward.

"It won't take many days and I think it'll be worth it," he said to residents of Teck Ghee in Ang Mo Kio GRC, where he is a Member of Parliament and a grassroots adviser.

"I hope you'll give us your support," he said, adding that part of the package would make it easier for less mobile elderly residents to move around within their flats.

Each flat's upgrading will cost about $27,000, said Mr Lee, but 95 per cent will be subsidised by the government.
