NAYPYIDAW: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will attend the Asean summit from Saturday to Sunday in Myanmar's capital of Naypyidaw.

He will be accompanied by Trade and Industry minister Lim Hng Kiang, and Law and Foreign minister K. Shanmugam, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

The Asean leaders will discuss progress in community-building efforts towards the establishment of an Asean Community by next year, and exchange views on regional and international issues, the statement added.

They will also meet representatives of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), civil society organisations and Asean Youth.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister in Mr Lee's absence.

On Saturday, Mr Lim will also attend a Asean Economic Community (AEC) Council meeting where he will discuss the progress on Asean's bid to become a single market by 2015, the Trade and Industry Ministry said in a separate statement.

The ministers will also discuss sectoral developments particularly in the areas of trade in services and finance, and address the status of negotiations of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, a free trade pact involving Asean and countries like Australia and China.
