SINGAPORE - Businesses here need the Government's help to tackle challenges that may surface with the new liquor control Bill, said Nominated Member of Parliament Thomas Chua, president of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Parliament on Friday.
For instance, while coffee shops can remind customers to buy and drink liquor before midnight, there might be some customers who make things difficult for the operators, he said.
The Government could consider measures to target people with a record of liquor-related offences, and put up prominent notices to alert the public to new restrictions, he suggested.
Night spots are also important to Singapore's appeal as a tourist destination, he noted, and the Government could also consider reviewing the liquor licensing rules at such spots - once public order improves with the introduction of the Bill.
