Local supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice has more than doubled its goal for annual staff volunteer hours to 5,000 in 2015.

FairPrice chief executive Seah Kian Peng announced this new goal - which is in line with Singapore's 50th birthday - at a Ren Ci Nursing Home volunteer event this morning.

FairPrice's staff volunteer programme was launched in 2012 with a goal of clocking 2,300 annual hours by 2016. They hit their goal ahead of schedule last year, prompting FairPrice to up its aim this year to 5,000 hours, Mr Seah said.

Mr Seah added that he is confident about hitting the ambitious goal, as he expects his staff to continue responding enthusiastically to the FairPrice volunteer programme.

"If we miss the goal it's okay but having a target in mind will drive everyone in FairPrice to work towards being a retailer with a heart," he added.
