SINGAPORE - Know of a good neighbour who has made a difference to those around them?

The HDB on Monday called for nominations for next year's Housing Board's Good Neighbour Awards, which recognise individuals who have shown acts of care and thoughtfulness to their neighbours and community.

This year, the student category will be expanded to include post-secondary institutions to "widen the outreach to a larger segment". Previously, the category only included primary and secondary schools.

Nominations must be submitted by Jan 31 next year through HDB branches, Community Clubs and Centres, online via www.hdb.gov.sg/heartlandbeat, through the toll-free hotline 1800-8663079, or via the Mobile@HDB app.

Students can also submit nominations through their schools.

"As the saying goes, a close neighbour is better than a distant relative," HDB chief executive Cheong Koon Hean said. "Little acts of kindness and consideration can spark off a cycle of neighbourliness, and make living in the HDB heartland more pleasant for all."

Organised by the HDB and People's Association, the Award has drawn more than 8,000 nominations and recognised more than 1,200 individuals since it was introduced in 2009.
