SINGAPORE - A new museum will be set up here to encourage religious tolerance and harmony, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Tuesday.
The Harmony in Diversity Museum, to be established by younger leaders of the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), will display artefacts that focus on the commonalities across religions.
The IRO leaders will also work with schools to incorporate the museum as part of learning journeys for students, Mr Lee said in announcing this project at the IRO's 66th anniversary dinner, held at the Istana on Tuesday night.
He added that the IRO leaders are also planning to join forces with scholars - including from the Inter-Religious Relations In Plural Societies (SRP) programme at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies - to build up a database of information about the different religions in Singapore.
This "knowledge repository" will be a focal point for the country's younger generation to learn about religious harmony and imbue in them the spirit of give-and-take, Mr Lee added.
