SINGAPORE - INTERPOL'S new complex here, the Interpol Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI), is almost fully operational.

Interpol staff moved in to the complex - located on the former site of the Tanglin Police Division headquarters in Napier Road - in December last year, said Mr Thomas Herko, assistant director at the IGCI.

The IGCI houses a digital crime centre, a cyber innovation and outreach directorate, and a capacity building arm, said Mr Herko, adding that these were the "main pillars" of the complex.

He was speaking on Tuesday, on the sidelines of a briefing on Interpol World, a trade exhibition and conference that will be held together with the IGCI's launch on April 13.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Home Affairs Minister, had said last year that the IGCI will complement Interpol's headquarters in Lyon, "provide tools and techniques for member countries to counter the latest trends, and set global standards and protocols in investigation and forensics".

Meanwhile, Interpol is also gearing up for Interpol World, its inaugural trade event.

The three-day affair will see over 250 companies from 35 countries exhibiting their security solutions in areas such as border management and cybersecurity.

One type of technology on show will be a crisis simulator developed by French company Thales for large scale events. It will allow law enforcement agencies or event organisers to anticipate how crowds would react when scenarios such as a bomb blast happen, so they can be prepared for a real crisis.

"The event is expected to attract about 8,000 people from the private sector as well as law enforcement and government agencies.
