Residents of Keat Hong constituency may become the first in Singapore to get bowling alleys in their community club when the new centre is built.

The upcoming building opposite Lot One Shoppers' Mall will be five-storeys high and will house a family-friendly gym, primary care medical facilities, a child development unit, and possibly a bowling centre when it opens in 2016.

The constituency raised more than $2 million over two years for the project, which replaces the void deck Lam Soon Community Centre.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was the guest-of-honour at the groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday morning.

Chua Chu Kang GRC MP Zaqy Mohamad said that the space will be "an icon of Chua Chu Kang kampung spirit...a hub where residents can bond and build memories".

He hopes more residents will engage in healthy activities with their families at the community club, especially with the construction of the bowling centre.
