SINGAPORE - Navy serviceman Military Expert (ME) 2 Jason Chee has returned to work, 18 months after he lost limbs in a horrific accident.

Mr Chee, who will now serve as an operations supervisor in 191 Squadron, was quoted by military publication Cyberpioneer as saying: "Before my accident, I was working on a ship. I loved to be on ship and to sail. I'll have to start all over again but I have to do it."

To make it easier for Mr Chee to move around, his unit is looking at widening doorways and installing ramps, grip bars and emergency buttons. Mr Chee is also learning to walk with prosthetic legs through a rehabilitation programme.

In December 2012 Mr Chee lost both legs, his left arm and three fingers on his right hand after he was caught between a berthing rope and a motorised winch on a warship. The 30-year-old has since won a bronze medal for Singapore in the 7th ASEAN Para Games in Myanmar in January. He is planning to join the 2016 Paralympics in Brazil and is also studying Mathematics at UniSIM.
