SINGAPORE - Dr Sai Mauk Kham, the First Vice-President of Myanmar, is making a five-day official visit to Singapore from Sunday to Thursday.

Dr Sai, an ethnic Shan doctor who is a member of the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), had been named as vice-president in February 2011 by Myanmar's Parliament.

The party won by a huge majority in the general election in November 2010, which was said to mark the move from a military to a civilian government. The army had held power in Myanmar since 1962.

At noon on Monday, Dr Sai will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana.
