MPs ask government to consider ways to honour Mr Lee Kuan Yew at Monday's session of Parliament

SINGAPORE - Members of Parliament will ask the Government to consider how Singapore's founding prime minister, the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, can be honoured when Parliament sits on Monday.

Among the suggestions are two from Ms Foo Mee Har (West Coast GRC). The first is to have a Founder's Day "to provide Singaporeans the opportunity to remember the struggles of the country in the early years".

According to Parliament's Order Paper - which lists questions that MPs have submitted for the session - her other suggestion, which has also been raised separately by Dr Lily Neo (Tanjong Pagar GRC), is to have Singapore notes and coins bear Mr Lee's image.

Both Dr Neo and Mr Ang Wei Neng (Jurong GRC) have also tabled questions for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong asking that the government consider renaming Changi Airport after the late Mr Lee.

Mr Lee died on March 23 March aged 91.

Besides the 31 questions on various issues tabled for Monday's session, four Bills are also being introduced. One is an amendment to the Monetary Authority of Singapore Act, and another an amendment to the Government Securities Act.

The Transport Ministry will introduce two new Bills: one on unmanned aircraft, and the other on third-party taxi booking service providers.
