Omni Theatre to reopen
The Omni Theatre at the Science Centre Singapore will reopen after a revamp. Its planetarium system has been digitally enhanced so that visuals projected on the full-dome screen are brighter. They will also be kept up-to-date as the system is powered by visualisation software that gets real-time data from agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) of the United States. - SAMANTHA BOH
DBS to put $12 million more into Marina Reservoir events
DBS will be committing another $12 million to introduce activities in and around the Marina Reservoir for another three years. It has poured in $10 million in the last three years to host popular events such as DBS Marina Regatta - Singapore's annual biggest water sports festival - and DBS Movies by the Bay - an outdoor movie screening session held on the third Friday and Saturday of each month. - JESSICA LIM
Economists hoping April CPI shows break in trend of falling prices
The consumer price index (CPI) for April is slated for release today, with economists looking closely to see if Singapore breaks out of its recent trend of falling prices. In March, the CPI fell 0.3 per cent year-on-year - the fifth consecutive month of decline and the longest stretch of negative inflation that Singapore has experienced since 2009. - CHIA YAN MIN
Inquest into Sydney cafe siege begins
A two-week inquest by Australia into a fatal siege at the Lindt cafe in Sydney begins today, following a one-day session in January, where details of the deaths of two hostages were revealed. The first part of the hearing will run till June 5, and will focus on the background of sole gunman Man Haron Monis and related issues, according to the New South Wales Coroner's Court. More than a hundred witnesses are expected to testify during the full inquest, and the findings will be released early next year. Besides the two hostages, Monis was also killed by the police during the drama on Dec 16 last year. - JEREMY LEE
