List of top 100 public-listed Singapore companies to be announced

The Singapore Institute of Directors and NUS Business School's Centre for Corporate Governance, Institutions and Organisations will announce the top 100 public-listed Singapore companies in the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard 2014-2015.

The ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard is a joint initiative between The Asian Development Bank and ASEAN Capital Market Forum to assess the corporate governance of publicly listed companies across ASEAN against the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's principles of corporate governance. - PHYLLIS HO

Father and son accused of killing alleged robber in court today

A Malaysian father and his Singaporean son who killed an alleged robber will have their case mentioned in Negri Sembilan today. Moo He Hong, 57, and Moo Wee Keong, 29, face up to two years' jail and a possible fine if found guilty of causing the death of Chan Boon Poh. The latter was said to have slashed Singaporean Kuek Soo Lan, the wife and mother of the two defendants, before being disarmed by the two men over the Chinese New Year period.

The Moos were released from 23 days of detention last month only after their murder charge was reduced to death by negligence. - SHANNON TEOH

Australian woman in court over drug smuggling charge

The case of Maria Elvira Pinto Exposto, an Australian woman arrested last December for allegedly smuggling 1.5-kg of crystal methamphetamine, the drug also known as ice, will be heard in a Kuala Lumpur court today. Exposto, a 52-year-old mother of four, was nabbed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, en route from Shanghai to Melbourne. She said she had been conned by an online romance scam into travelling to Shanghai and was then duped into carrying a bag containing the suspected drugs by a stranger.

A chemical analysis of the substance in the bag will be presented to the court today. If confirmed to be ice, the case would be moved to a higher court, where Exposto would face the death penalty upon conviction. - LEE SEOK HWAI
