More help for Nepal set to arrive today

Disaster relief teams from the US to China are expected to arrive in Nepal to join search-and-rescue operations for victims of Saturday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake, in which at least 2,400 have been reported killed. Among the teams will be a contingent from Singapore, comprising officers from the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Defence to arrange for Singaporeans in Nepal to depart via RSAF aircraft that are scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu today. In Singapore, Mercy Relief will launch a formal appeal for donations for the quake victims while the Red Cross will also begin to accept walk-in donations. - LEE SEOK HWAI

Singapore adults, even older ones, are the most active online in South-east Asia, Australia and New Zealand, a new survey has found. Even among Singaporeans aged above 50, more than 20 per cent go online daily. Communications technology company Ericsson will release more findings of its survey on Monday. - LESTER HIO

Trial of Batman shooting suspect starts

The long-awaited murder trial of James Holmes, the 27-year-old who is accused of opening fire in a packed Batman movie premiere in Colorado in 2012, killing 12, is set to begin. Holmes, a neuroscience graduate student, allegedly dressed up as the Joker - one of the villains in The Dark Knight Rises - in the attack that also left 70 people injured. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. If convicted, Holmes could face the death penalty; if found not guilty, he faces lifetime confinement in a state mental hospital. - LEE SEOK HWAI
