Minister Tan Chuan-Jin to attend Mr Lee Kuan Yew's memorial service in Beijing
Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin will be attending a memorial service today for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew at the Singapore Embassy in Beijing, as the one-month death anniversary of Singapore's founding Prime Minister approaches. Mr Tan will also meet senior Chinese officials on the sidelines.
Mr Tan will also officiate the opening reception of Singapore: Inside Out in Beijing tomorrow. The event is a multi-disciplinary showcase of contemporary creative disciplines, with collaborations between Singaporean and Chinese artists. - TEO CHENG WEE
Jurong Heritage Trail traces the area's rich history
Did you know that Jurong was once a pirates' hideout and training ground for spies? The National Heritage Board (NHB) has come up with a new heritage trail that will feature more than 30 sites and 12 trail markers on such highlights of Jurong's history. The NHB will give a media preview today and officially launch the Jurong Heritage Trail, its 13th national heritage trail, on Saturday (April 25) as part of Singapore HeritageFest. - OLIVIA HO
$1 million donation to mark 20 years of Tang Plaza
Tang Holdings Group will donate $1 million to charity to mark the 20th anniversary of its building Tang Plaza, which houses its office, its flagship department store Tangs, as well as Marriott Hotel. Closing day highlights of the World Economic Forum on East Asia
One of the highlights on the closing day of the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Jakarta today will be a session devoted to examining the benefits accruing to the region and to the global economy from the formation of the Asean Economic Community. The bold initiative underway will carve a single market and production base from the 10 South-east Asian economies by the end of this year. Mr Bambang Brodjonegoro, Indonesia's Minister of Finance will be among speakers addressing the topic.
