SINGAPORE - The elderly will soon have more chances to ask questions about the Pioneer Generation Package in person at official booths.

More booths manned by public servants and volunteers will be set up in places frequented by many seniors, said its taskforce co-chair Amy Khor on Thursday.

"We are planning to organise more of such listening points for the package, for instance, where the Malay-speaking community frequents, or the Tamil-speaking community, or in other areas...like Chinatown," said Dr Khor, who is also Senior Minister of State for Health and chairman of the government feedback unit Reach.

She was speaking to reporters at the first such "listening point" located opposite the popular Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho temple on Waterloo Street near Bugis.

The booth was manned by Reach staff and other volunteers who explained how the package worked to passers-by, with the aid of brochures and dialect videos which were being screened. Bottles of herbal drinks were also given out for free.

"We have plans to do it for the other communities in other areas, but we have not worked out exactly how many we will organise for the package, simply because we are still evaluating, monitoring, and seeing how to improve it."

Some questions which seniors had asked about the pioneer package so far were whether they needed to apply for it, what benefits they would receive, and when these would be given out, said Dr Khor.
